Today, Brother Kevin Chao is being baptized. Sister Yena, who was baptized as an infant, is now confessing her faith with her own lips through confirmation. We believe God is pleased with these two precious confessions of faith. With them, the number of people baptized or confirmed at our church has now reached 112.
Behind each of these 112 people are many others who prayed for them, invited them to a house church, brought them to church, and walked with them as they took their first steps of faith. It is never easy for a person to receive Jesus as Savior and be saved. That is why Jesus said in Luke 15 that there is great joy and celebration in heaven when even one sinner repents and comes home. Today, that same joy of heaven is with our church.
As our church puts more effort into evangelism, we hope to bear even more fruit by raising up new believers for baptism and helping them grow as disciples of the Lord.
Of course, the more souls we lead to salvation, the better. But as a starting point, I hope each of us will set a goal of helping two people come to baptism in our lifetime. Most of the time, this fruit comes as we work together with shepherds, pastors, and other members. So if we think of our share as about one-third, we can set our hearts on taking part in the baptism of six people over our lifetime.
Six people may sound like a lot if we think about it all at once. But if we aim to lead one person to Christ and to baptism about every five years, it is not a heavy burden at all. And as we do this, God helps us grow spiritually and lets us taste the deep grace that comes with being mature Christians.
This includes our own children and family members. So instead of starting with a sense of pressure, let us begin by living with gratitude and joy and showing an example of faith in our daily lives. That kind of life opens people's hearts and naturally leads them to the gospel.
Someday, when we see the people we led to Christ become true disciples of Jesus, raising up others and building the church together, we will look back on our lives not with regret but with deep thankfulness and a sense of purpose. Just as Paul told Timothy to entrust the gospel "to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also" (2 Timothy 2:2), the gospel is passed on from one person to the next.
When the whole church works together to share the gospel and raise up new believers, we will keep experiencing the joy of new life being born, and we will naturally see revival.
Raising up new believers for baptism is one of the most precious goals of our lives. I pray that as you keep this goal in your heart and work toward it, your life will overflow with joy and thankfulness, and that you will live a blessed life that experiences true revival.
